The first St. Pius…his influence continues to this day

Today is the feast day of the first Pope Pius who prescribed that the feast of the Resurrection should always fall on a Sunday, and from that time became the most important Sunday of the year.  Pope Pius I was the tenth pope and began his reign in 142, until he was martyred in the year 150. The fact that he ruled in Rome allows us to clarify that the centre of Catholicism was ‘Roman’ from its very beginnings.
The Collect for the Tridentine Mass of a Martyr Bishop is very much for the heavy hearted sinner, ‘have regard to our weakness, O almighty God, and since the burden or our deeds is grievous to us, grant that the glorious intercession of blessed Pope Pius Thy martyr and bishop may protect us. Through Christ Our Lord.'
